I'm usually not the type who will complain about money. To me, as long as I am comfortable with , i'm fine; meaning it's enough to meet my basic needs. But some how, recently i feel otherwise, feeling rather tight lately. Don't know why... have some budgetting to do then!

Manchester United in Bukit Jalil (delayed post)

Hubby, a firm fan of Manchester United flew both of us to KL to watch his favourite team play. And that was my very first experience watching a live football match.

Hubby in his newly bought latest Man Utd jersey. He just grabbed it at The Gardens before we arrived at the stadium.

Me, just dressed in my usual clothe, went there with mixed feelings. Why...?

Excicted about the game, on the other hand paranoid about H1N1 in a crowded place. So i got my mask on albeit slanted.. for show only!

This is how i look after my threadmill run today. Sweaty and rosy cheeks! Burnt 258kcal, ran 3.9km. I'm so proud of myself! Oh, how i enjoy my working day today! Left the hospital by 6pm, had dinner and exercise. Heavenly! Hope to have more of such moments....

There is dry spells and drought in Sarawak. After hearing the news about water rationing in Kuching, I told Hubby about it during my on call. And to my surprise, after back from work, I saw this at home.....

How sweet of him to have filled up the only pathetic 4 pails that we have at home...

And the available drinking water container that he could find in time before he flew off to KL.

I was told by my consultant that many of my patients' parents don't like me, saying that I'm garang. And the kids love me! Haha..... I don't mind. The reasons why the parents dislike me because I'm more strict with them; eg. ensuring them that they serve medications to their children properly at home, be more strict with their children on taking vegetables and I will chase off relatives who come to visit during non-visiting hours (hey, the sick kids need rest larr). But the children and babies like me. ;)

My much delayed post. Tagged along Hubby for another photo shoot on 23.8.2008. It was Timothy and Lynette's E-session and their precious moments on 30th August 2008 were captured by Hubby too.

The E-session took place at an abandon house. It may look ugly but it was a very nice place for photoshoot. Poor Lynette had to feed some mozzies initially. But she had sweet Timothy for comfort.

Seeking 2nd opinion

Most people would not accept freely the first time when they are told to have a disease condition ( I would!). Most people would seek for a second or third opinion from other sources. And of course, in medical profession, you're free to seek second opinion from other doctors. Why I do say other sources? Cos they are people who prefer seeking advice from bomohs, dukuns or traditional healers, as these group of people give the answers they want to hear. While the doctors tell them that they are not ill etc. I get very frustrated at times, especially when this happens to my own family members, albeit me asking them to see the respective specialis. Frustrating....

Shock of my life

I received this sms from my mummy yesterday: "Just out from angiogram, need to go 4 (heart) by-pass surgery. Will fix date later."

I almost fainted or needed a heart by-pass surgery myself when I read that. So many thoughts run through my mind.... why didn't mum tell me earlier that she went for angiogram? I was very restless at that time as I couldn't call her immediately as I was still at work.

Then I called; And Thank God it was not her! Mum was trying to forward her friend's sms to me and that was from her friend. I was like..... "This is not funny, Mum!" ... So much of my mummy learning to forward sms on her mobile phone!

Got this idea to post on this 'educational' issue or medical problem, not life treating but important to preserve the virility of the martians out there. It happens both in children and adults, usually in teenagers or boys in their twenties but can happen at any age.

I recently saw two cases of similar problem in one week during my on-call. They were boys of same age, 11 years who presented with pain in their testis.

By the way, does everyone here know what a testis is? Duh! Why am I asking? Cos I had great difficulty in explaining to a chinese mother what a testis is. I tried many ways of saying it, be it in proper chinese word or laymen term, she still didn't know what a testis is. Weird but true! She appeared that she didn't know that men have balls. (serious!!)

Anyway...... boys presented to doctors with testicular pain are much of our concern. Why? Not because we are such perverts [we get to see various ones anyway ;) ] but we are worried of a condition called torsion of testis or twisting of testis.

Twisting of the testicles and the spermatic cord

This causes decrease in blood flow to the testicles and time is a factor, whereby the testicles will then slowly be lack of blood flow and dies off. If this was brought to attention and diagnosed early, a surgery will be performed to rectify the problem and the testis might be saved.

This is a gangrenous (dead) testis which has to be removed. But men can still reproduce and preserve his virility with one testis.

So, don't hesitate to see a doctor if we have pain in our balls!

Hubby and his 'accomplice', Edwin were playing with some new gadgets last Saturday. Boy! tell you, the way they behave reminded me of our childhood days were boys will share their toys and find new places to play their friends and the girls found new 'recipe' for their 'masak-masak' sessions. Late anniversary dinner

We have celebrated for our 1st anniversary in KK but the funniest thing is, we did not have a romantic dinner on that day. (could not deny a dinner invitation by an insistent friend there) And I was so busy that we only had opportunity to go for a decent dinner for our anniversary.

Hubby and I both had pork at "My Restaurant", i think famous for their pork dishes.

I was on-call the day before and only had 3 hours of sleep.

I need your passport, Malaysian

Most people from the West Malaysia who travels to Sabah/ Sarawak will know that they have to carry their passport or IC with them. I have been working in Sarawak for more than 3 years and I have my permit/ visa-to-work-Sarawak (a.k.a. to serve Sarawakians) stamped in my international passport. Taking things for granted, I thought traveling from Sarawak does not require me to bring my INTERNATIONAL passport with me (since I have stepped into Sarawak/ Borneo). But no... no... I was dubbed and slapped by the fact that the immigration officers needed my passport and let me tell you, they are not the most courteous people around! Hmph! Imagine..... they were asking me to show proofs that I am working in Sarawak General Hospital, which course I couldn't produce at that moment of time.
Thank God we were at the airport early and I had about 45min before departure to go back home to get my INTERNATIONAL passport. Sigh....Imagine the frustration I had...

Hooray! I'm so so proud of myself . I'm determined enough to hop onto the threadmill at the gym downstairs at my apartment.

And today is the second time, though it is only once a week kinda thing but at least I started it. Ya.... just that I have the opportunity to leave work half an hour earlier than the usual 7pm. And that makes so much difference in my lifestyle! Yup.... hope I can continue with this. Wish me luck!

A balding hamster

I got a shock when I saw my little hamster had some hair loss few days ago and it made my heart sank! Poor boy!

But i just had the time yesterday to bring him to the vet.

Brought Yuan in this waste paper basket. And I must admit that I felt weird bringing a hamster, especially in a wastepaper basket to the vet. (wonder do people bring their hamsters to the vet?). What more there were cats around that I was so scared that they are gonna come after my little hamster here.

And he was diagnosed to have skin fungal infection, was prescribed with a shampoo and vitamin. It cost me RM25 for that vet visit.

Botak bum! Luckily his brother is free from fungus.

Fruity meal

Home alone today. Hubby has gone traveling. As usual, I was back from work late and did not have any idea what to eat (though thoughtful mother in-law did asked me to go over for dinner but I was too tired). So I decided to have fruits for dinner, since I have got them in the fridge.

So had an apple, an orange, kiwi fruit and a banana. Well, it's just nice. And ohh.... I wished I could do this frequently. Has been quite gluttony lately...

Soy sauce

In our country, noodles and many other type of dishes are served wit cili padi soaked in soy sauce. And sometimes i do miss the one served in Peninsula Malaysia. I finally found it in Expert food court in BDC, the night when my car was broken into.

Spot the difference..... Haha... no it's not the size of the saucer. It's the type of soy sauce they use. The usual one served in Sarawak uses dark soy sauce.

I have got many annoying encounters while at work; I'm sometimes amused with the Sarawakian Malay dialect here/ terms they use. One incident........

* Normally, patients who had operations done with have sort of a graduated kind of diet. Meaning, they are allowed water first, nourishing fluids than soft diet.

Me: Dia ada makan ka? (Did she have anything?)

Patient's mother: Ada, dia makan roti. (yes, she had 'roti')

Me: Oh.. jangan bagi dia roti dulu.. bagi minum susu dulu. (don't let eat bread first, have some milk first)

Mother: Ah? Tak boleh kah ini roti? (showing me biscuits) ( Can't she have this 'roti')

Me: Ini bukan roti, ini biskut! Saya fikir kamu cakap roti lembut itu... (that's not bread, that's biscuits!)

Mother: oh... maksud kamu bread? (oh you meant 'bread'?)

Me: ?????? *faint*

Hope you guys undersatnd the conversation above.

Lesson learnt here: for Sarawakian Malays, biscuits are called roti and bread is called bread. The correct word usage should be; biscuit is biskut and bread is roti.

Ayam masak merah

Back in Peninsula Malaysia, I used to like eating ayam masak merah, a tasty spicy Malay chicken dish, usually eating with nasi lemak. While shopping for groceries, I saw this masak merah seasoning and bought it to experiment it myself.

It is quite simple to cook it. Get some chicken, fry them after marinating with salt and add the seasoning after mixing it water. You can add some onion and chili too.

It is so spicy that it made my lips swell up! Haha.. sexy lips!

I'm quite a vain person by nature. Hehe... which XX isn't? I like to dress up and look good. But I'm not extremist... maybe blame it on my job? Like I have said before, (through my observation) pharmacists in my hospital are more well-groomed than doctors. Well, probably because they work 8-5, and we won't have any mood to groom up after a day's work; exhausted and what you want is just to sleep........

Have been feeling fat and flabby lately. I have been pigging out despite my busy schedule. Guess I seem to eat more junkie when I go on-call. And I never have the motivation and time to exercise. And today....... It's a Sunday, going on-call..... and I was motivated enough to wake up early to do some exercise before work! Yay! NOt long but at least I started...... had about 20 minutes (only) of Bellydancing.

Heeeeeeeee~ Yeah! I have got a collection of VCDs for aerobics and dancing ever since my student days you see.... So I decided to take the Bellydance VCD out and started my exercise in my living room. Bellydance is more suitable to be done in confined space you see... and I don't need to wear shoes.
And wow! I made it! And time to get ready to work then!

* I shall be motivated again to do regular exercise! Wish me luck!

My poor car

I was so sad yesterday because of something unpleasant happened last night. My unfortunate car was broken in at BDC, Kuching. Hubby and I were just having dinner at the Expert Food court there and was caught by surprised after our dinner.

So to all Kuching-ites out there, please be extra careful when park your cars.

The right hind-passenger seat window was smashed. (sob..sob...)

And my little bear that was hung on the window fell into the pile of broken glass.

Don't know what attracted them to my car as there wasn't anything obvious that was worth stolen; no bags, sunglass.....

Maybe the coca-cola bottle in my car lured him into it as he was thirsty that he almost died of dehydration?

Was it this rubbish bag that I hung behind the driver's seat? (this bag is used to store rubbish)

Or maybe it was this bag full of papers that I intended to send for recycling? So much for trying to safe the earth?

A friend told me that some of the thieves like to aim for 'girlish' cars, as women are known to be less cautious with their belongings in the cars.

I really don't know! What I know is that it had to make me fork some amount of money to fix it. Thank God and got it done today! Thanks to mum-in-law who ferried me around to the workshop and to work (Hubby has gone traveling this morning).

I really pity my car that has gone through so much. But it has served me well though it is actually ailing slowly.....

By a packet of Maggi instant noodles in the MO room!

I am on-call today, and it was already 10.30pm. I have been seeing this packet of Maggi mee (which belongs to my colleague) on the table in the MO computer room since morning. And my gluttony took over me. Sigh.... talking about trying to lose weight?!

And there I was....Couldn't resist the temptation! Treated myself with a bowl of curry-flavoured Maggi mee (which I coincidentally have it too). Slurp... slurp.... Burp!

I find this ridiculous article/ comment from The Star newspaper 22nd May 2008: -

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian group condemned the uniform worn by girls at government schools, saying it encouraged rape and pre-marital sex.

“The white blouse is too transparent for girls and it becomes a source of attraction,” National Islamic Students Association of Malaysia vice-president Munirah Bahari said in a statement.

..............................Munirah said that “covering up” according to Islamic precepts was important to fend off social ills, including “rape, sexual harassment and even premarital sex.”

“This leads to babies born out of wedlock and, to an extent, even prostitution,” she said.

A marriage that can pray

It is obvious that everyone hopes and prays for good marriage. But there is another equally important thing, to have a marriage that can pray. We must pray for good and godly marriages. We must pray that marriages will be good and godly so we can pray!

A good and happy marriage is not only for the happiness of husbands, wives and children; it is for God's glory! Amen! So, never cease to pray...

Constipation

Since I have a few parents reader, I might as well talk some health-related issue. :)
Recently, there are a handful of kids being referred to the paediatric surgical clinic for constipation. My consultant and my fellow colleagues are usually not the happiest people to see constipation cases. Why? Cos it's not a disease but a self-created disease! Why is it a self-created disease? We always have the impression that all constipated kids are spoilt. Hehe.... why? why? Cos these are the kids who don't take vegetables and drink enough of water. And it's due to parents who give in to their children who are fussy with food. And please..... vitamins are not substitutes to vegetables! The children need vegetables for the fibre and plenty of water is also needed in a day. And mind you, there are kids who get REALLY bad and serious due to the constipation. So, don't subject the child to unnecessary danger due to the self-created disease. It's just merely diet management, simple!

This has also made me so 'addicted' to vegetables. Must eat vege everyday..

On-call room

So far, I haven't shown anyone or even hubby how is the on-call room in the hospital like, the 'hotel' room in the hospital when we are on-call.

The sign on the door shows "On-call medical officer". This room belongs to paediatric surgical medical officers and is shared by 3 medical officers.

The bed where I sleep; not bad right? Cartoon-ish curtain. There's a telephone there, people either call us at our mobile phones or the phone in there.

The bathroom. Huge mirror! Some of the toiletries are mine.

There will be people changing the bedsheets daily. Seems luxurious? Want to do more calls? No way!

Hubby is away for few days for a meeting in KL. And it's a rare occasion that I don't mind doing on-calls on alternate days (yesterday and tomorrow).

I miss him so much! People might just say that I should be used to not meeting each other for days due to his traveling schedule and my on-calls. But I always miss him whenever we are apart, even for a night. It's my turn to sleep alone tonight dear....

Learn to say NO

I seriously have to learn how to say no. It just gets to me so much that I can say NO, maybe it's the phlegmatic side of me that stops me from doing so. And when I don't say no, I get irritated with myself for not saying so, as it really tired me. I need time for myself and my dear......

Had a pretty unhealthy 'dinner' today. What did my dinner made up off? -Waffle, Cheezels and Cadburry chocolate drink. Felt so guilty after munching on the last piece of Cheezels ring. Talk about calories! But... can help it, I have got excuses. What is there to eat when you have nothing to eat when you're on-call? Hubby was nice to offer to bring me food, I just didn't wanna trouble him...

Anyway, Hubby and I got registered on 5th May last year. Well, I know our lives and hubby and wifey only starts on 7th July 2007 but I still think 5th May 2007 is worth remembering.

Coffee no more?

I have been sort of addicted to coffee for more than a year, needing to have coffee every morning. Tried a few times not to take coffee for breakfast, I'll bogged down with very bad headache the whole day. But during recent trip back home to my parents', I stopped taking coffee in the mornings for 2 days, and I managed to break this addiction. I was so so happy! Hehe... have been trying to stop this addiction for sometime. And now, so far so good.... no more the 'need' for coffee and still craving for it sometimes though. Hopefully I don't need it anymore, and therein successful coffee addiction rehabilitation.

Labour's Day

Happy Labour's day for those who are working out there! Even students have to privilege to enjoy the holiday. (duh! No teachers what!)

But Labour's Day to me means labourers/ workers having to work-day. Why do I sound so resentful? Cause I have to work, thats why! Haha.... More so having to work when I'm not feeling well, recovering from diarrhoea and dehydration. Felt so 'lembik' this morning cos of the dehydration and most likely electrolytes imbalance. But thanks to oral rehydration salt (ORS) that helped me get hydrated a little. Thank God for the speedy recovery. :)

Anyway, enjoy your holiday and time with loved ones whenever you have the opportunity, don't miss it!

I recently used the budget airline, Air Asia back to my hometown,which means I landed at the LCCT (Low cost carrier terminal). Used the toilets there and noticed this in the cubicles. Imagine using this thin sheet of tissue after pooing? Yew.... Haha... One sheet is all you need.

High class kueh tiau

Dad brought me to a 'high class' Ipoh kueh tiau soup in Petaling Jaya. Why do I say high class? Well, it's not the usual hawker stall, the restaurant is air conditioned.

Similar kind of kueh tiau soup you can get from Ipoh town.

Surprisingly the price wasn't too expensive. Only about Rm15 for 2 bowls of keuh tiau soup, a bowl of meatballs soupand a plate of bean sprouts.

Yay!! ...... It's finally my turn to go leave and let my two colleagues go. Haha.... but it's a viciousway. cycle anyway. Caught an early 7am AirAsia flight today, a very punctual and fast journey back to LCCT Sepang. I'm now surfing from home with Mummy and 'baby' sis around. Today itself, I've been pigging out. Was very hungry on board, got a RM 8 AirAsia nasi lemak, then wolf down tasty Ipoh 'hor fun' in PJ (gonna post pics later), then had tasty porridge for lunch at home. Then, adding to the fat layer of my tummy, I took an afternoon nap. tsk...tsk.. tsk... No choice! I assisted a 21 hours operation on Tuesday (8am til 6am on Wed), didn't sleep at all and had to catch the flight this morning.
Whatever it is, I'm gonna enjoy myself.
